It’s been 3 weeks since we began the Accessible Tourism Roadtrip. So far we’ve had an amazing boatride to Santander, saw old friends in Aviles, made the local newspaper too, made the long drive to Barcelona, stayed in an amazing apartment at MICs Sant Jordi, and enjoyed endless fun in the Catalan capital.
This weekend my mum and step-dad Dave visited. Unfortunately I’ve had an awful chesty cough and had to sit out of the activities today. Nonetheless every other moment with them has been magical. From the glorious mountains to the sparkling sea (and everything in between), it’s been super. My favourite moment was getting mum to go on the Bus Touristic to Mont Juic, and see the panorama over the city. Thank you for joining us guys!
As you’ll have seen on my other blogs and social media updates Kasia and I have walked for miles. Another great general moment has been learning and seeing Gaudi’s work. He’s such an icon and inspiration here.
Tomorrow Srin and Filipe arrive and join me for some accessible tourism work. We’re growing Disability Horizons to new pastures, learning how to make www.accomable.com the best thing since sliced bread, and meeting various accessible tourism professionals in Barcelona. Going to be a very busy and interesting week.
Meanwhile I’m finalising mine and Kasia’s plans on the European Commission project in June. We’re researching our accommodation in France and Italy from the 1st June, before joining the 2 week tour. Then we’re going onto so many awesome places!
I know that this roadtrip has already showed many people what can be possible in life, regardless of perceived limitations. Also I know that many tourism facilities have learned how to improve their facilities for disabled people. Most of all I’m proud to be living life to the full, earning a living, and blazing a trail as I go.
Here’s to 2 more weeks in Barcelona and a lifetime of happiness for everyone 🙂
