Last summer on holiday in Poland I was reflecting on various things. One such reflection was on how it’d been just over 20 years since I’d gone to uni to study economics.
It reminded me of Mr Sanderson. My GCSE business studies and A level Economics teacher. I realised how his teaching had shaped and inspired so much of my life over the past 2 decades.
Not only did he teach the subject I received my bachelors degree in, it’s a topic I’ve used again and again in the pursuit of a fully inclusive world. Plus I’ve ended up running multiple businesses and even teaching others these principles more recently.
Through the help of one of my school Learning Support Assistants (LSAs, now Teaching Assistants or TAs) I managed to track Dave (it’s weird calling him by his first name!) down.
Following some emails and a phone call we met up in person this week. It felt really important for me to share how much positive impact he’d had on my life. To ultimately thank him for being a brilliant and fun teacher.
We spoke about so many different things. A real meeting of minds. I came away so happy, with a load of good book recommendations, and a fire to pay forward any semblance of what I received from Mr Sanderson and his classes back around the year 2000.
Would love to hear any similar stories you have like this. Or maybe it’s just reminded you of someone you’d like to get back in contact with?
Feel free to comment with your similar experiences and have a brilliant weekend
